How to minify JSON online

  1. Paste your JSON, open a .json file, or drag and drop one.
  2. Click Minify (or press Ctrl + Enter).
  3. The status bar shows your savings, e.g. 1.2 KB → 480 B (60% smaller).
  4. Copy the result or download it as a file.

Why minify JSON?

Whitespace makes JSON readable for humans, but machines do not need it. Removing indentation, line breaks, and spaces between tokens cuts file size and speeds up transfers — which matters for API responses, bundled config files, and any JSON shipped to browsers. The minified output remains fully valid JSON: same data, same structure, fewer bytes.

JSONKit validates your input before minifying, so if something is wrong you will see the exact line and column of the error instead of a broken output file.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my JSON get?
It depends on how the JSON was formatted. Pretty-printed JSON often shrinks by 30–60% after minification, because all indentation, line breaks, and spaces between tokens are removed. Already-compact JSON will not shrink further.
Is minified JSON still valid JSON?
Yes. Minification only removes whitespace that the JSON standard treats as insignificant. The data, structure, and string contents are byte-for-byte equivalent — any parser reads both forms identically.
Should I minify or gzip my JSON?
Both, for different layers. Minify first, then let your web server apply gzip or Brotli compression on top — the two work together. Minifying before compression typically improves the compressed size a little and helps consumers who receive the raw file.
Does minification change number precision?
No. Numbers are serialized exactly as parsed by the JavaScript engine, with no rounding or reformatting beyond what JSON.stringify produces for the same value.
Is my data private?
Yes. Minification happens entirely in your browser. Your JSON is never uploaded to any server, and this page sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts.
